The REAL Heroes

The word ‘HERO’ is being hurled about, seemingly without discretion. In time of war, we deem any one who is on the front line as a hero. Maybe they are heroes. I don’t know.
But, to me, the real heroes are those left behind. The mothers and fathers who must put a brave face on a tragic situation – who must support something they are, at best, ambivalent about – who dread the late night phone call and the visit by those two men in uniform.
I know if left to their own thoughts, every parent would want to bring their child home. I feel strongly that these same parents are our REAL heroes! To just arise every morning and get dressed becomes a courageous act.
My heart breaks for these moms, dads, wives, husbands and offspring. You are our heroes for just being…
